Learn More About Thermage®

Thermage® is an advanced way to tighten the skin without incisions or surgery. The device has a sophisticated treatment tip applied to the skin, delivering heat to the deeper layers while cooling the surface. Radiofrequency energy heats the underlying layers of skin to trigger a healing response that creates new collagen production over time. This heat also helps contract existing collagen fibers. As new collagen is formed in the deepest skin layers, the overlying skin appears tighter and lifted, looking more refreshed and youthful. 

Our board-certified dermatologists use the innovative Thermage® technology to treat sagging skin almost anywhere on the body. Thermage® works best for mild to moderate skin laxity on the cheeks and jowls, the upper face for heavy eyelids, skin laxity on the abdomen, and on the back of the thighs for rippled skin.

After a thorough consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists, we will evaluate the areas of concern, discuss your goals, and determine if you are a good candidate for Thermage®. We perform all Thermage® treatments in one of our private and comfortable body-contouring suites. 

During treatment, a warm sensation is felt as the radiofrequency energy creates heat within the skin. For most patients, no anesthesia is required during treatment as the heat sensation is mild and tolerable. The Thermage® device features cooling and vibration technology to minimize discomfort. Treatment times vary from 30 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Patients often see a small amount of skin tightening immediately after a Thermage® treatment due to the RF energy contracting collagen fibers. The most dramatic results are visible three to six months after treatment as new collagen grows to tighten the skin further and produce a more youthful and toned appearance. You can expect firmer skin that restores more youthful contours and minimizes wrinkles.

Thermage® results are long-lasting, especially with proper skin care and healthy practices. Protecting your skin from sun damage and using a medical-grade skincare regimen can help optimize and maintain your skin’s health and appearance. We typically recommend maintenance sessions every year or two to keep your skin smooth and firm.

You may have mild redness or swelling after treatment, which should resolve in a few hours. Patients can return to their daily activities immediately with no downtime. However, your skin will be sensitive, so you must avoid sun exposure and use gentle skincare products and moisturizers while it heals. Your Capital Laser & Skin Care dermatologist will give you detailed aftercare instructions.

Most people with mild to moderate skin laxity are good candidates for Thermage®. It can improve skin laxity and wrinkles in the face, eyelids, neck, and body.

Thermage® may not be effective for severe loose skin and sagging. Our dermatologists will help you determine if Thermage® is right for you during a detailed consultation. We may not recommend Thermage® if you are pregnant, nursing, have certain medical conditions, or have an electronic implanted device like a pacemaker.
