Learn More About Sofwave™ Skin Tightening

Sofwave™ is an FDA-cleared treatment that uses ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production, tightening the skin and visibly reducing lines and wrinkles. Sofwave™ works to tighten the skin around the brows as well as in the submental (under the chin) and neck areas. It also works on the rest of the face to reduce lines and wrinkles by firming the skin.

Using powerful high-intensity ultrasound, Sofwave™ transfers its energy to the skin at a consistent depth of 1.5mm, an ideal depth for producing skin-tightening results while minimizing any discomfort or downtime. The ultrasound energy produces heat, which causes controlled damage to the cells in this layer of skin.

As a result of this damage, cells begin a repair and rejuvenation process that includes the production of collagen. Collagen, a natural protein that gives our skin its strength and structure, declines with age. Enhancing collagen production makes skin look tighter, younger, and smoother.

Sofwave™ procedures are performed by one of our skin care experts. With their experience and expertise, they will ensure your comfort throughout the treatment and provide you with the best possible results.

Your treatment will last 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the areas being treated. You will receive a numbing cream applied to the skin, and the Sofwave™ technology includes a proprietary Sofcool™ skin-protecting treatment that will keep you comfortable. 

Unlike some other ultrasound treatments, Sofwave™ acts at the ideal depth to achieve skin tightening and wrinkle reduction without causing noticeable discomfort or downtime. Most patients don’t feel anything during the procedure, though there may be a heating sensation in particularly sensitive areas, and we provide solutions to reduce discomfort.

Although individual results vary, you can expect to see tighter skin in the brow area, under the chin, and around the neck. You will also see decreased lines and wrinkles in the treated areas and skin that looks overall smoother, firmer, and more lifted. The new collagen will give skin a healthy, resilient appearance.

Sofwave™ has high patient satisfaction, with more than 70% of patients rating their results as “improved or very much improved.” Your results will fully appear after about twelve weeks, and you can expect them to last about a year. Maintenance treatments every year can keep skin tight and wrinkles under control. Some patients choose to pair their Sofwave™ procedure with dermal fillers or neuromodulators like Botox® for optimal rejuvenating results.

One of the benefits of Sofwave™is that it’s a quick, convenient treatment with no downtime. You can resume all of your regular activities immediately after treatment with Sofwave™. The cooling technology keeps the skin from experiencing any damage, so most people see no residual effects other than some mild redness for a day or two, which is easily covered with makeup.

Most people make good candidates for Sofwave™. This treatment works for all skin tones and types, unlike many laser skin tightening treatments. The ideal candidate has some loose skin around the neck or jawline, sagging in the brow area, or lines and wrinkles. For younger patients, Sofwave™ can also be beneficial as a preventative measure against signs of aging.

However, we may recommend a different type of treatment for patients with significant loose skin for maximum results. We offer multiple options for skin tightening depending on your needs, such as Ultherapy® for more severe skin laxity and Elixis Elite™ for treating other parts of the body.
