Learn More About Fraxel® Dual Laser

The Fraxel® Dual is the most advanced non-ablative resurfacing laser that works by delivering heat to targeted layers within the skin. The heat stimulates the production of collagen over time to improve tone and texture while the surface of the skin is gently exfoliated. Through a series of treatments, the Fraxel® Dual can improve fine lines and wrinkles, sun and age spots, rough skin texture, and the appearance of enlarged pores, acne, and surgical scars. Recent clinical studies show that Fraxel Dual can also be used to reduce the risk of certain types of skin cancer in the treatment areas. 

Unlike ablative laser resurfacing, which removes the top layer of skin, Fraxel® causes microdamage to the skin to trigger collagen production without damaging it, resulting in less recovery time. The Fraxel® Dual laser is one of several laser resurfacing options at Capital Laser. Depending on your skin condition and goals, we also offer the Halo® hybrid fractional laser, BroadBand Light (BBL®) laser technology, the Clear + Brilliant® laser, and more.

After a thorough evaluation to determine if you are a good candidate for treatment, all Fraxel® Dual treatments are performed by our board-certified dermatologists. Our extensive experience with Fraxel® lasers allows us to customize and blend treatments to address the specific concerns of each patient. Whether you would like to treat blotchy pigmentation, improve the appearance of scars, or turn back the signs of aging, our physicians can create a personalized treatment plan to provide you with the desired outcome.

Fraxel® Dual laser treatments are convenient and easy to fit into a busy schedule. After topical or Pro-Nox™ anesthesia has been applied and given time to take effect, the procedure takes from 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Within a week of a Fraxel® Dual laser treatment, the skin looks refreshed. Over time, as the skin continues to produce new collagen, you will notice additional improvements in the tone and texture of the skin as fine lines, wrinkles, or scars gradually improve in appearance. 

The final results of a Fraxel® Dual treatment can take up to three to six months to appear. Depending on the skin concern, we may recommend a series of treatments to achieve optimal benefits. You can expect your final results to last up to two years, but possibly longer with a supportive skin care regiment.

After your Fraxel® Dual treatment, your skin will be pink and swollen for up to 24 hours and then become “tanned” looking and feel rough like sandpaper. The sandpaper-like texture can last for several days. Gentle products will be provided to use after the treatment. You can apply makeup the next day, and most patients can return to their normal routine within one or two days of treatment.

Although Fraxel® Dual treatments are typically healed completely within four to five days, it is important to wear sunscreen and avoid unnecessary sun exposure for several weeks following the procedure (or as outlined by your physician). Protecting your skin from the sun will also prevent future damage and preserve your results. Other skin treatments like chemical peels or microneedling can also be beneficial to maintain your newly rejuvenated complexion.

As one of the gentlest laser resurfacing options, Fraxel® Dual treatments are a good option for many adults wanting to improve sun damage and signs of aging.
