Medical Facials

With a serum or cream for every concern, at-home skincare has become more accessible and personalizable for people of all skin types, ages, and conditions. You can find several products that promise to improve your skin concerns, from acne to wrinkles, at the nearest drugstore.

Unfortunately, these products often don’t live up to their promises. And it can be hard to navigate the enormous selection of brands and products to find what will actually work for your skin. If you want to achieve your happiest, healthiest complexion without needles or downtime, it may be time to try medical facials.

Learn More About Medical Facials

Sometimes, skincare is more than just practical and healthy–it’s relaxing and fun. Getting pampered at a spa or giving yourself the luxury treatment with an at-home spa day can refresh not only your skin but also you. The relaxing facials and masks these spa days typically include can give your skin a hydrating boost. However, they’re often mild, have only superficial, short-lived benefits, and aren’t customized to your skin.

Medical facials, on the other hand, combine luxury with more effective, powerful skincare. Our board-certified dermatologists perform facials using medical-grade skincare chosen specifically for your skin type and concerns. To further customize your facial and enhance your results, we may pair medical facials with other modalities like LED light therapy, microneedling, or laser resurfacing.

Since medical facials are highly personalized to each individual, the treatment experience varies. Facials are typically a gentle, even enjoyable experience. During a detailed consultation, your Capital Laser & Skin Care dermatologist will evaluate your skin and discuss your goals to create a customized treatment plan, including what modalities and skincare ingredients to use.

Unless your facial is combined with another procedure like laser resurfacing or microneedling, there will likely be no needles, numbing cream, or downtime. A medical facial takes approximately one hour. After cleansing your skin, we typically perform a combination of exfoliation, treatment masks, massage, and a serum or moisturizer.

Exfoliation helps unclog pores and refresh the skin, allowing it to absorb beneficial ingredients from masks and serums afterward. A massage is sometimes included to stimulate circulation. The mask or serums included in your facial will be purposefully chosen for your skin’s needs. In some cases, we may incorporate a chemical peel.

Though results vary based on your tailored treatment, medical facials often yield brighter, dewier skin immediately. Your dermatologist will use serums and modalities specifically for your concerns. Hyaluronic acid may be included for patients with mature or dry skin, while patients with hyperpigmentation or a dull complexion may benefit more from vitamin C and peptides. Medical facials help deeply hydrate the skin, so many patients have a noticeable glow within hours.

Some medical facials may yield immediate results, while others may show the best results in a couple of days. Results will also vary if your facial is combined with other treatments. The visible benefits of a facial alone typically last a couple of weeks. Incorporating medical facials into your skincare routine can lead to better and longer-lasting benefits, especially for specific concerns like fine lines or dark spots. You can also use facials to make your skin look its best before big events.

By themselves, medical facials have little to no side effects and no downtime. Your skin may be slightly pink or irritated for a few hours. Typically, you can resume your usual activities and apply makeup immediately after, though skipping makeup on the first day may optimize your benefits. You may need to avoid exfoliation, heat, and harsh skincare products for a couple of days.

If your medical facial incorporates a chemical peel, laser resurfacing, or other skin rejuvenation treatment, you should expect more side effects and possibly brief downtime. Your dermatologist will give you specific aftercare instructions for your personalized facial.

Almost anyone is a good candidate for medical facials. Our dermatologists can use a wide range of serums, masks, exfoliation methods, and skin rejuvenation modalities to tailor the treatment to your skin type and needs. Even sensitive skin can benefit from a facial performed by a professional who knows which products to use. And because they’re so customizable, medical facials can benefit patients with various concerns, from sun damage to enlarged pores

For some patients, our dermatologists may recommend certain types of facials like DiamondGlow® or HydraFacial®. Keep in mind that some skin conditions may require more intensive treatment options to achieve your goals.
