Is Jeuveau better than Botox?

Jeuveau™ joins Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® as the only four FDA-approved wrinkle-relaxing injectables in the market. Botox®, of course, is the most well-known. Since Jeuveau™ is the latest on the scene, it makes sense that there may be questions regarding whether it is cheaper (in cost or quality) or better (onset or longevity of results) than Botox®. Jeuveau™ is not necessarily better than the others – just different.

What is Jeuveau™?

Jeuveau™ is extracted from the same type of bacteria as Botox® (botulinum toxin Type A), making it a reasonable alternative. It is an injectable used to temporarily improve the appearance of glabellar lines (commonly known as frown lines between the eyebrows or the “11s”). Working on the same principle as Botox®, Jeuveau™ smooths out creases in the face through injections into specific muscles. These injections temporarily freeze habitual muscle contractions, allowing the muscles and wrinkles to relax.

Injectable Effectiveness

Over the last 30 years, Botox® has been FDA approved for treating a much longer list of concerns than Jeuveau™, which is FDA approved only for treating glabellar lines. Each is great for treating frown lines.

Injectable Results: Onset and Longevity

The final results for treating expression lines take a few days to settle in with either Jeuveau™ or Botox®, and last for about 3 to 4 months on average. Most patients will see full results within 7 days following their Jeuveau™ treatment. While there have been no definitive studies that demonstrate a statistically significant difference in duration compared to other neurotoxins, Jeuveau™ is prepared using a unique purification process. This means that some patients may get better results than with Botox® treatments, and vice-versa.

Injectable Safety Profile

Although Jeuveau™ is new to the market, there have been no reports of negative side effects or adverse complications from its use. Both Jeuveau™ and Botox® are FDA approved, which indicates their safety and efficacy have been successfully proven through clinical trials. 

Injectable Cost Comparison

When Jeuveau™ was first introduced, it was speculated to be priced much lower than Botox®. With the exception of special promotions, however, these two injectables end up costing roughly the same when you compare the same treatment areas. 

It’s important to consider that if a patient responds better to Jeuveau™ than Botox®, fewer units may be required. In these instances, the total cost for Jeuveau™ treatments may be lower.
