Chemical Peels for Glowing Skin: What to Expect from Your Treatment

A radiant, even-toned complexion is achievable with chemical peels, a time-tested treatment for skin rejuvenation. At Capital Laser & Skin Care, we offer a range of chemical peels tailored to different skin concerns and sensitivity levels. Whether you are targeting dullness, uneven texture, fine lines, or hyperpigmentation, a customized peel can help reveal fresher, healthier skin.

What is a Chemical Peel or Facial Peel?

A chemical peel is an exfoliating treatment that removes dead skin cells and stimulates cell turnover. Using carefully formulated acids, these treatments improve skin texture, tone, and overall appearance. Chemical peels vary in strength, ranging from light to moderate, and can address concerns such as fine lines, acne, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage.

At Capital Laser & Skin Care, we offer a range of peels, including:

  • Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels – Effective for improving skin tone and reducing signs of aging.
  • Vitalize® Peel – A blend of salicylic, lactic, and retinoic acids with resorcinol to brighten and smooth skin.
  • PCA Ultrapeel® – Combines TCA, lactic, kojic, and azelaic acids to treat pigmentation and uneven texture.
  • Glycolic Acid Peels – Available in various strengths to exfoliate and refresh the skin.

What to Expect During a Chemical Peel

Your chemical peel experience will depend on the type and strength of the peel selected for your skin. The treatment begins with cleansing, followed by the application of the chemical solution. You may feel a tingling or warming sensation as the peel works to exfoliate the outer layer of the skin, but facial peels are usually not uncomfortable. The process typically lasts between 10 to 30 minutes.

Is There Any Downtime After Chemical Peels?

Downtime varies based on the strength of the peel:

Light peels (glycolic, Vitalize®) have little to no downtime, with slight redness that resolves within hours.

Moderate peels (TCA, PCA Ultrapeel®) may cause mild peeling and flaking for a few days post-treatment.

Regardless of the peel type, it is crucial to follow post-treatment care instructions, including moisturizing and applying broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your newly revealed skin.

How Often Should I Get a Chemical Peel?

The frequency of facial peels depends on the individual’s skin type, goals, and the type of peel used:

  • Light peels can be performed every 2-4 weeks for ongoing maintenance.
  • Moderate peels may be recommended every 4-6 weeks.

Your skincare specialist at Capital Laser & Skin Care will develop a personalized plan to achieve your best results while maintaining skin health.

What Results Should I Expect From Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels provide noticeable improvements in skin texture, brightness, and clarity. After a light peel, you can expect a refreshed glow with minimal flaking. Moderate peels offer more dramatic results, such as reduced fine lines, improved pigmentation, and a smoother complexion.

For optimal skin health and lasting radiance, incorporating chemical peels into your skincare regimen can keep your complexion looking its best.
