With hopes of getting rid of unwanted fat, many men and women come to Capital Laser & Skin Care seeking out CoolSculpting. Known for its whittling ways, CoolSculpting has become a staff and patient favorite. With our patients’ needs in mind, Dr. Tanzi provides insight into CoolSculpting’s unique treatment and answers your frequently asked questions.

“CoolSculpting is a completely non-surgical, clinically proven, safe and effective way to freeze unwanted fat—all without surgery or downtime.”

— Dr. Tanzi, Capital Laser & Skin Care Board Certified Dermatologist

What Is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting takes advantage of the fact that “fat cells do not like to be frozen,” explains Dr. Tanzi. So, by freezing fat cells, they “slowly over time self-destruct and are naturally removed from the body.”

How Can I Benefit from CoolSculpting?

In the “area that we treat, about 20 to 25 percent of the fat cells will self-destruct,” explains Dr. Tanzi. She continues, “Naturally, the body gently gets rid of them.” As the fat cells are frozen and gradually flushed from the body, you are left with a slimmer and sleeker physique. The best part, “once the fat cells are removed, they are gone for good!”

When Will I See the Results?

It takes time for your body to process dead fat cells. For most, it takes “about one to three months before you start to see the results.”

While a number of “people will notice improvement with a single treatment,” there is always the option to “do more treatments,” Dr. Tanzi explains. In fact, many find that “they are able to get an even better cosmetic result” by completing “more treatments, or treatments in the surrounding areas.”

What are the Most Popular Treatment Areas?

Seemingly, the most popular treatment areas are also those that have been cleared by the FDA. They include the abdomen, or as Dr. Tanzi playing says, “you know, the tummy.” CoolSculpting also treats the flanks, more familiarly deemed the ‘love handles’ or ‘muffin top,’ as well as the inner and outer thighs. And now, with the introduction of the CoolMini, the double chin can be treated as well!

Am I a Candidate for CoolSculpting?

To be successful, CoolSculpting must be “done in an individualized way,” says Dr. Tanzi. Unfortunately, “not all types of fat respond to CoolSculpting.” Thus, it is important to be evaluated by a qualified practitioner to see if you are a candidate. “If you are the right candidate, it is going to work!” exclaims Dr. Tanzi.
